A magnificent 19th century antique French reliquary dating to the Napoleon III period.
The large oval wooden frame features a domed glass front and the back has its original red ribbons and 4 red wax Vatican Cardinal's seals.
The relic has been ornately decorated with gold-tone paperolle motifs with small pearl-coloured beads all against a velvet background.
A beautiful hand painted miniature portrait of Saint Peter surrounded by an exquisite paperolle and bead frame adorns the center of the reliquary.
The sides feature 8 saints' relics and have been individually hand-labelled in French and include the saints' names:
Saint Sebastian (Martyr), Saint Francois de Sales, Saint De Chantal, Blessed Ponce AB, Blessed Margaret Marie, Saint Germain AB, Saint Guerin (Evangelist), Saint Maurice (Martyr).

The antique reliquary is in very good condition with all seals intact.
One pearl bead has come loose from the cetnre frame around the portrait and there is dicolouration and age spots to the velvet fabric mount.
